Structured for Support. Designed for Growth.

At RAIN-SPEN, our classrooms are intentionally crafted to support the unique learning needs of students with disabilities. We believe every child deserves a space where they can feel safe, seen, and supported  and our classroom environments are a reflection of that belief.

Small Groups, Big Support

Each classroom maintains an ideal ratio of:

  • 1 Lead Teacher
  • 2 Teaching Assistants
  • Maximum of 12 students

This staffing structure ensures that every student receives the individualized attention they need, while also benefiting from structured group learning and peer interaction.

Designed for Growth

Flexible Learning Groups

Students are grouped within a three-year age range, allowing:

  • Older students to serve as academic role models
  • Younger students to learn in socially integrated, age-appropriate ways
  • More natural peer mentoring and collaboration

This format encourages students to grow at their own pace while remaining engaged with their peers.

Beyond Four Walls

At RAIN-SPEN, our classrooms don’t stop at the door. Students and teachers regularly engage with:

  • The campus gardens
  • Outdoor learning zones
  • The Water Garden
  • Animal and plant-based observation spaces

This indoor-outdoor integration supports experiential learning, promotes emotional balance, and gives students opportunities to explore their environment safely.

Thoughtful Layout & Materials

Classroom furniture and materials are arranged to:

  • Encourage collaboration
  • Reduce distractions
  • Support sensory needs
  • Create zones for small group and one-on-one learning

Teachers can adapt the physical layout throughout the year based on each student’s academic, emotional, or behavioral needs.

A Personalized Learning Approach

Every child undergoes an individualized academic assessment at the beginning of the year or upon enrollment. From this, teachers create flexible, personalized learning plans that adapt to each student’s:

  • Developmental level
  • Learning style
  • Emotional and social needs

Instruction is delivered using a multi-tiered support system:

  • Class-wide instruction
  • Small group learning
  • One-on-one sessions

A Space Where Students Thrive

RAIN-SPEN classrooms aren’t just about delivering a curriculum, they’re about helping students build confidence, independence, communication skills, and a love for learning.
