Charting a Brighter Future: Career Opportunity Day at RAIN-SPEN Empowers Students Living with Disabilities

On Wednesday, 19th February 2025, the campus of RAIN-SPEN School was filled with excitement and renewed hope as the Remi Ayeleso Empowerment Initiative for People with Special Needs hosted a Career Opportunity Day specially organized for students living with disabilities.

The event, held within the school premises, was declared open by the Director of Academics, Prof. Mary Ayeleso, who warmly welcomed participants and special guests. In her opening address, Prof. Ayeleso emphasized that the goal of the program was to guide students with disabilities in choosing meaningful career paths. She highlighted a sobering reality in society—that rather than nurturing the gifts and potential of children with disabilities, many are often written off and denied opportunities.

“At RAIN-SPEN, we believe every child is gifted,” she said. “Our institution is not only committed to academic excellence but also to vocational training and personal development.”

Prof. Ayeleso’s words set the tone for an inspiring and impactful day.

The school’s Student Counselor, Dr. Ifeagachukwu Amorha, took the stage next and encouraged students to pursue careers aligned with their passions. He stressed that their physical condition should never be a barrier to ambition.

“Don’t be discouraged or intimidated by the career path you choose,” he advised. “RAIN-SPEN will provide every necessary support to ensure your dreams come true.”
He also shared that the school runs a 24/7 counseling session, ensuring students always have access to guidance and support.

One of the most moving moments of the event came from the school’s Ambassador, Mrs. Ngozi Michael Bassey, who shared her personal journey. Despite being on a wheelchair, she pursued her dreams and earned a degree in Office and Information Management.

“If I can do it, so can you,” she encouraged attendees, her story standing as a powerful example of courage, persistence, and belief in oneself.

Also present was Dr. Yetunde Olawale, a specialist in Science Education, who commended the Remi Ayeleso Empowerment Initiative for its continued support of students with disabilities. She noted the institution’s unique focus on academic achievement, vocational training, and financial independence, saying:

“Here, students are not just educated—they are empowered to earn and to thrive.”

As part of the event’s commitment to real, practical support, RAIN-SPEN distributed a variety of relief and empowerment materials to ease life for persons living with disabilities and to support their educational and entrepreneurial aspirations. Items distributed included:

  • Wheelchairs
  • Clutches
  • Sewing machines
  • Cobbling machines
  • Laptops and printers
  • Food items
  • Cash support, among others.

These items were received with deep gratitude and joy by the beneficiaries, some of whom had never owned such equipment before.

The event ended at 3:00 PM with heartfelt closing remarks by the Director of Administration, Mr. Anthony Ayeleso. He expressed his joy and fulfillment, observing that people with disabilities are now beginning to realize their full potential and are making the best use of the opportunities available to them.

“Seeing the transformation in our students is proof that we are on the right path,” he said. “RAIN-SPEN will continue to stand as a pillar of support and a beacon of hope.”

The day concluded with smiles, applause, and a shared vision for a future where every ability is celebrated and supported, and where disability is never a limitation but a launching pad for greatness.
